You can tell the reader exactly what you're looking for. The approach you mention of trying to identify the weakest areas is a good one. You can also point the areas you think don't work and try to get them into a discussion about it, hopefully giving them permission to be negative.<br /><br />Personally I find swapping crits with other writers to be useful. If you're hard on them they'll be hard on you.
